The NTO (non-thermal oxidation) exhaust air cleaning technology from Keller Lufttechnik for reducing volatile organic compounds (VOG) is based on a combination of adsorption, ozonzation and photolysis. The decomposition processes arc basically identical to the ones found in nature. The technology utilizes ozone and UV radiation for oxidizing the solvent molecules. Even organic compounds that are difficult to degrade and intermediates are oxidized to reliable limits The NTO process works with two alternating adsorption filters. The VOC molecules are adsorped on the filter surface. While one adsorption filter is engaged the other one is cleaned in the reverse flow. The airstream containing VOC is mixed with ozone and reaches a photolysis reactor. UV radition excites the ozone particles which then disintegrate to from radicals, which in turn combine whith humidity to form highly reactive OH radicals. These then start the decomposition of the organic compounds.
