Universal hose offers excellent resistance and clean media
One for all

One for all
EFS hoses are easy to handle and offer excellent resistance
Hoses lined with EFS combine the advantages of smooth-bore rubber hoses with the almost unlimited applications of fluorocarbon copolymers. This homogeneous material comprises elements of TFE, HFP and VDF.

EFS is a fluorocarbon copolymer which is free of inhibitors, stabilisers and softeners. It contains no additives which could be leached out to contaminate or discolour the medium. EFS can therefore be used without any risk for pure, valuable fluids such as sensitive photographic chemicals and demineralised water.

Ideal for universal hoses
EFS has good elongation values as well as excellent resistance to weathering and temperature changes. The hose remains flexible at temperatures as low as -30°C, resists penetration or migration of fluids and diffusion of gas, even in very thin sections, and is also flame-resistant. It is suitable for all fluids which are handled at ambient temperature in dry hose operations, such as when a wide range of products needs to be handled. EFS hoses are also ideal for most wet hose operations where the hose remains filled with fluid for long periods. The only exceptions are a few amines.
Also suitable for foodstuffs
EFS has a number of properties that are particularly important for the food processing industry. It is odourless and tasteless. The chlorine take-up is only 0.35 mg/m² per day as compared with the maximum permitted value of 2 mg/m². EFS hoses are extremely resistant to abrasion. Dry and abrasive media remain clean and are not contaminated by abrasion particles.
The non-stick properties of EFS linings are especially critical for foodstuffs when a variety of fluids has to be handled through one hose.
In contrast with hoses that have internal convolutions or helices, there is almost no accumulation of residues and hygiene and quality requirements are easily met with simple and inexpensive methods of cleaning. There is therefore no danger of mixing or contamination with previously transported fluids. Any commercially available cleaning or sterilising agent may be used for internal cleaning, including detergents, alkali and boiling water. The smooth, non-stick lining also reduces internal friction and speeds up flow, particularly with viscous or sticky media. As the EFS lining is fully resistant to the effects of ozone and weathering, the hose may be stored with open ends.
Easy to handle
The handling properties are comparable to those of good-quality oil hoses used for road tankers. This significant advance is due to the special properties of EFS, which prevents penetration of fluid and diffusion of vapours even through a very thin layer. At the same time a steel helix fully embedded in the wall of the hose, and insulated from the fluid, permits bending to a small radius without kinking as well as use for suction pur-poses. Frequent flexing of this type of hose requires a robust construction and secure bonding of the lining with the other hose components.
EFS hoses prove that a hose with a smooth, fluorocarbon copolymer lining is both affordable and cost-effective. The competi-tive price is due not only to the excellent properties and integrity of the very thin (0.6 mm) fluorocarbon lining, but also to the experience and large-scale manufacturing resources and techniques of one of Europe’s major manufacturers of hoses for the petroleum and chemical industries. EFS hoses can be manufactured in lengths of 40 m for stock (30 m from 40 up), which is more economical than production and distribution of short lengths made to individual requirements.
The braided textile reinforcements of EFS hoses are designed to provide safe operating pressure up to 16 bar, with test pressure up to 25 bar and bursting pressure in excess of 50 bar up to 30 nominal diameter. The hoses therefore easily meet the requirements of existing national and international industrial safety standards, and comply with the codes of practice for handling and transporting hazardous liquids by a wide margin. Electrostatic charges are diverted via the anti-static rubber compound in which the steel helix is embedded.
EFS hoses are supplied with a smooth, black chloroprene cover which is anti-static, flame-retardant and extremely resistant to wear and tear. The smooth cover allows the hose to be pulled across the ground without any danger of sparking or tangling. The hoses are manufactured in standard bore sizes from 13 to 100 mm (1/20 to 40); other bore sizes can be manufactured to special order. The hoses and fittings are simple to assemble, even on worn-out hose ends.
