Flue gas of hazardous waste incineration needs to be cooled rapidly in order to suppress dioxine formation. The new equipment achieves this by utilization of the venturi scrubber principle. The hot gas enters the tubular equipment at the top and is cooled by injected water. After that, in the throats formed between two transversally mounted cylinders and an adjustable cylindrical displacement body, the large shear stress of the gas flow produces a dispersion of fine droplets. In the channel system an intensive renewal of the gas-liquid interface takes place, which is the reason for compact-ness and low price. In addition to being cooled the gas is purified from dust particles – both even under varying gas loads, thanks to the displacement body being adjustable. The cool and clean gas leaves the equipment through the exit. Process equipment graphite and rubber-plated steel render the Diabon variable throat venturi quench system Reither temperature and corro-sion resistant.
