The ETS technology for sludge granulation avoids both waste materials and the cost of dumping them. The cost-effective technique makes it possible to recycle or re-utilize sludges in a meaningful fashion. The operating costs are low as a result of low energy consumption as well as a claused and automated mode of operation. Due to the ETS technology idling time for filling and emptying can be avoided. Intermediate vessels, pumps, process measuring and control equipment are no longer necessary. The process starts by feeding sludges and, depending upon requirements, various types of dust into the ETS mixing reactor with dosing equipment. They are then homogenized in a three-dimensional turbulent fluidized bed. Subsequently, an appropriate reagent or binding agent and, if required, water are added to adjust the optimum moisture content. By selecting the appropriate process parameters, it is possible to produce solid and extensively uniform granulates.
