With the DF friction-reducing process the friction of O-rings is reduced up to 50%. The surface is modified in the µm range. The process neither involves coating nor affects the elastomer properties. Surface contamination is avoided at the treatment stage helping to make the seals suitable for sensitive applications, e.g. drinking water and food product processing. O-Rings with such a treatment are suitable for automated assembly. They separate well and are less inclined to transposition. In dynamic applications, especially dry running, stick-slip is prevented and breakaway force after long down times reduced. Consequently wear is lessened and service life increased. There are several other friction reducing processes offered by the manufacturer including surface treatments, powder coatings, PTFE coatings and a high wear-resistant plastic coating, suitable for applications involving chemicals and aggressive fluids.
