The transmitter Polytron IR continuously detects hydrocarbons in air or other atmospheres by infrared (IR) absorption. Its made possible by non-imaging optics in order to get pellistor-like detection characteristics. The optics are resistant to vibrations and extreme environmental conditions. A splashguard and a built-in heating system provide constant flow of ambient air and reduces delays by diffusion. A port for handheld terminal allows access for main-tenance or configuration purposes. It has a 4 to 20 mA analog signal and interfaces for digital communication via HART and RS485. For specific valida-tion or special configurations a calibration is still recommended and easily carried out.
