These two-stage reverse osmosis plants permit production of demineralised water from various sources of raw water as well as the production of drinking water from sea water and brackish water, and they can be used to recycle waste water. The possible applications are correspondingly versatile, ranging from drinking water supply in arid regions to utilisation in many kinds of industrial processes covering such sectors as the foodstuffs and beverages industries as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The yield of demineralised water is up to 80% and the salt retention fraction is more than 99%. Plants are available in finely graded capacity stages for pre-treated drinking water, chemically conditioned brackish water and chemically conditioned seawater. Among other devices, the technical equipment includes control valves for adjusting pressure, yield, permeate and concentrate. Flow rate meters indicate the part streams and pressure gauges indicate the operating pressure. A microprocessor control system monitors all functions and immediately reports any disturbances of operation. Quality control is provided by a digital conductometer with continual display of the water quality.
