The difference between the two PTFE-based gaskets Burachem-S and Burachem-E lies in the additives used in them (quartz for type S and microspheres for type E) and thus notably in their respective density, compressibility and compression modulus at elevated temperature. PTFE’s known tendency towards cold flow is hindered in Burachem by a multidirectional orientation.
Both seal types can be used under the most diverse operating conditions and throughout the entire pH range. They demonstrate very good insulation characteristics, are weather-resistant and non-ageing and also suited to applications in the pharmaceutical and foodstuff industries (FDA approved). The Burachem-S is WRC approved for use with drinking water and BAM tested for applications involving gaseous oxygen up to 40 bar and 225 °C.
The Burachem-E already seals at an extremely low surface pressure level, is highly compres-sible and can even be used in applications involving non-parallel flanges and uneven surfaces. It is particularly ideal for use where enamelled flanges, plastic flanges, glass bottles and sight-glasses are concerned.
