Gentle distillation for the chemical industry

For gentle distillation condi-tions, thin film and short path distillators are ideal, operated in continuous mode with product residence times between several seconds and a few minutes. The essential characteristic feature of the thin film evaporators of a german manufacturer is a vertical, cylindrical, double shelled vessel, on the fine polished in-side wall of which the product is distributed at the top and flows downwards in a thin layer. A rotating wiper system with self-cleaning roller wiper devices creates an ideal, turbulent moving film on the heated surface. Large cross sections inside the evaporator body allow a vapor flow into the external condenser with a minimum loss of pres-sure. The short path distillators of the same manufaturer are designed with a condenser inside the evaporator vessel. There-fore the drop in pressure is negligible. This company supplies complete distillation plants for every conceivable problem in the chemical industry, from lab scale units with flow rates of less than 100 g/h, to pilot and production plants with feed rates of up to 20 MT/h and operating times of 8000 h/a.
