The wear protection materials Kalcret vary by the use of specific hard materials combined with particular cements as binder, micro-silica as superfine pore fillers, additives and application-related size distributions. These characteristics result in exactly defined properties like hardness, wear and temperature resistance, compressive strength and workability. Kalcret B is based on bauxite as hard material, Kalcret C on corundum. Kalcret S is a material highlighted by particular wear resistance which is attributable to the use of silicon carbide. All three materials are offered in qualities that can be cast and trowelled and which withstand temperatures up to 400 or 1200 °C. Lining thickness between 20 and 80 mm has proved useful in practice. The thermal shock resistance exceeds that of fused basalt and ceramic materials and the shrinkage rate is below 1%. Mechanical or electrical wear-protection monitoring systems can be used.
